It is not given any physical or chemical treatment and is set in a jewellery piece in its natural form. Originally rough, Polki has a non-faceted polished surface and is usually cut to follow the original structure of the stone. Origin of Polki<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

One of the oldest forms of uncut diamonds, Polki originated in Bikaner, India, thousands of years ago. But it was during the Mughal era when this art of designing traditional jewellery out of uncut diamonds gained prominence. With the advent of modern cutting methods in the gems and jewellery scene, the art has travelled to various parts of India and the world now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Different kinds of Polki settings<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are basically three types of Polki settings Jadau, Badroom, and Takkar, wherein each one requires a different skill-set as well as gives discrete end-result.<\/p>\n

  • Polki diamonds are embedded on a silver or gold foil in the Jadau-Polki setting.
    <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The Badroom Polki setting is a tulle pattern where Polkis are set in 24K gold in a jaali pattern.

  • In the Takkar Polki setting, embedded Polkis are arranged edge to edge with one another, without using any metal packing.
